Hub Edge Realty, LLC is sponsoring the 2016 Autumn Photo Contest which runs until the winter solstice on December 21st at 5:44 AM. The theme of the photo contest is “Celebrate Stoughton”. Here’s a cheat sheet…
Here are some locations that I’ve scouted that seem visually interesting to me.
- 69 Pleasant Street, Stoughton
- 710 Turnpike Street, Stoughton
- Ames Pond, located at the corner of Highland Street and West Street
- C. W. Welch Pond, located within the Bird Street Conservation Area
- Hansen Brothers General Store, located at 602 Pleasant Street, Stoughton
- IKEA, located at 1 Ikea Way, Stoughton
- Mary Baker Eddy House, located at 133 Central Street, Stoughton
- State Theatre, located at 797 Washington Street, Stoughton
- Stoughton Station, located at 45 Wyman Street, Stoughton
- Stoughton Water Works, located on Central Street between Island Street and West Street
These locations are just some of the locations in Stoughton that seems interesting to me but you can’t be a good photographer unless you find a subject that seems interesting to you. I encourage you to seek out interesting subjects within the boundaries of Stoughton. Find those locations.
I like raw beauty. I like history. I like mood. I like urban decay. I like wonderment.
I like the golden hour. I like the golden ratio. I like the rule of thirds. I like leading lines. I love symmetry.
Please take these cheats and suggestions into consideration while you’re composing your photos.
I’ll personally be picking the 10 photos that encompass the winners but the judges will be picking the placement, from first place to tenth place, of those 10 finalists. Entrants can enter multiple photos but can only enter up to one photo per week. Voters can vote up to once per day. I encourage entrants to vote on their own photos. I encourage voters to return every day in order to see and vote on any new submissions. You will retain ownership of your photographs. Hub Edge Realty, LLC will retain a license to use the photographs in perpetuity.
I’ve taken the initiative to contact the faculty at Avon High School, Brockton High School, Canton High School, Oliver Ames High School, Randolph High School. Sharon High School, Stoughton High School, Massasoit Community College and Curry College. I’ve taken the initiative to contact some local professional photography companies like Be Studio Photography, HAMK Photo and Video Studios, K. Engel Photography and Maggie Jill Photography. I’ve reached out to Marc Vasconcellos of The Enterprise. I’d like to invite you, whether you’re an amateur or a professional, to submit your best.
Are you thinking about entering? Tell your friends to support your efforts by voting on your photos up to once per day. Entrants and voters can go to either Facebook.com/617hubedge or StoughtonPhotoContest.com to enter and vote. $50 goes to the entry with the most “Likes”, even if it’s an awful photo, and that photo automatically gets entered to win one of the cash prizes.
